The Opportunity
We are adding capacity to economic development and planning work across the county, from Danville to Hoopeston, Georgetown, and our smaller communities. This role brings planning, data, and relationship skills together. In the first year, a key milestone is building a county-wide asset map: an organized, shareable picture of the sites, buildings, infrastructure, and community assets that make Vermilion County ready for growth.
This is a great fit for someone with a background in economic development, urban or regional planning, community development, or a related field who wants to see their work make a visible difference in a community.
Two Levels, One Application
We are hiring for this position at one of two levels, depending on experience. Apply either way, and we will find the right fit together.

Economic Development Planning Coordinator
$70,000 to $80,000
For candidates with several years of economic development, planning, or related experience who are ready to lead county-wide initiatives.
$55,000 to $60,000
For candidates newer to economic development or planning, including those bringing strong skills from another field, who are ready to learn the work and grow into greater responsibility.

What You Will Do
• Lead a county-wide asset mapping effort, including identifying an asset tracking plan and data storage process, then inventorying and maintaining information on available sites, buildings, infrastructure, and community assets.
• Support economic development planning with communities across Vermilion County and help connect local plans to county-wide goals.
• Support business attraction, retention, and expansion, including site selection research, responses to requests for information, and prospect follow-up.
• Work alongside the President and CEO with major employers and elected officials, coordinating follow-up and keeping projects moving.
• Visit Vermilion Advantage members on a regular schedule and document visits in our customer relationship management (CRM) system.
• Gather and present data on the local economy, workforce, and real estate to support decisions and tell the county’s story.
• Track progress on economic development goals and prepare clear updates and reports.
What You Bring
• A bachelor’s degree in planning, economic development, public administration, public affairs, business, geography, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• For the Director level, several years of experience in economic development, planning, community development, or related work. For the Coordinator level, some related experience or transferable skills from another field.
• Strong communication skills, in writing, in presentations, and one on one.
• Comfort working with data and maps. GIS experience is a plus.
• Experience with a CRM or database is preferred. We will train the right person.
• Ease meeting with business owners, community leaders, and residents, and strong follow-through.
• Professional credentials such as AICP or CEcD are welcome but not required.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Vermilion County.
