The Danville Public Library is seeking a qualified and safety-oriented individual to serve as a
Part-Time Bookmobile Driver. This position requires a valid Illinois Class C driver’s license and
is responsible for safely operating the library’s mobile outreach vehicle to deliver library services throughout the community. The Bookmobile Driver supports the library’s mission of expanding access to books, educational materials, and digital resources by bringing library services directly to neighborhoods, schools, and community locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Safely operate and transport the library bookmobile along scheduled outreach routes
• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Ensure proper parking, stabilization, and setup of the bookmobile at service locations
• Maintain safe operation of the vehicle in residential areas, schools, and community locations
• Assist library staff with maintaining organization and cleanliness of the bookmobile interior
• Provide courteous and professional service to library patrons at community stops
• Maintain accurate vehicle logs and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Follow all Illinois commercial vehicle regulations, traffic laws, and library policies
• Assist with basic setup and closing of outreach services
• Ability to work respectfully and professionally with patrons of all ages and backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications
• Valid Illinois driver’s license with a minimum Class C classification required
• Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred but not required
• Safe driving record
• Experience operating large vehicles such as buses, commercial trucks, or mobile service
vehicles
• Ability to follow established routes and maintain scheduled stops
• Strong reliability and punctuality
• Ability to work cooperatively with library staff and interact positively with the public
