As the City’s Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector, you will enforce the City’s adopted Plumbing and Mechanical Codes through inspections and compliance activities while providing expert guidance to contractors, homeowners, and the public. Your technical knowledge and commitment to excellence will help maintain high standards for construction and public safety.

Beyond inspection responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to use your hands-on skills by assisting with repairs, winterization, and the general maintenance of City-owned facilities. You’ll also help shape the future of our municipal buildings by identifying and recommending facility improvements that increase safety, efficiency, and long-term value.

Wage / Salary: $66,880
Duties / Responsibilities:

The following examples are illustrative of the work duties and responsibilities.

  • Review and approve construction plans submitted for permits.
  • Approve the issuance of plumbing and mechanical permits.
  • Perform timely and accurate field inspections to ensure code compliance.
  • Work with contractors, businesses, and the public to promote compliance with applicable codes.
  • Collaborate with other inspectors on code enforcement and interpretation.
  • Prepare violation notices, fine letters, and other correspondence as needed.
  • Recommend updates to plumbing and mechanical codes.
  • Assist in improving the City's permitting and inspection processes.
  • Assist with the maintenance, repair, installation, inspection, and seasonal winterization of plumbing and mechanical systems at City-owned facilities, as assigned.
Days per week: Monday - Friday
Shift: 1st Shift
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. Certificate from a recognized educational institution.
  • At least five (5) years of practical experience in this or a closely related field.
  • Illinois Class D Vehicle Operators License or obtain within 30 days of start.
  • State of Illinois Plumbing License or obtain within 30 days of start.
  • ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector and ICC Certification as a Residential Mechanical Inspector (must obtain within 6 months of start).
