New Directions Treatment Center is committed to providing exceptional substance use disorder treatment services including, but not limited to, comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, counseling, therapy, DUI and Investigative evaluations for the Courts or the Office of the Secretary of State, and also prevention services including DUI risk education. We are seeking a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) to help us fulfill this function.

The CADC counselor is a professional who assesses an individual for a substance use disorder, places patient into appropriate treatment program, and has the skills and knowledge to deal with the unique attitudes and behavior of individuals who suffer from substance use disorders (SUDs) by providing effective treatment counseling and therapy. This is a full time position working Monday-Friday, 1st Shift/early evening hours 1-2 days a week may be required.
Job Responsibilities: (which include but are not limited to the following clinical services)
· Provide clinical services according to IDHR 2060 Licensing regulations (complete substance use admissions, continue stay reviews, discharge assessments, and after care planning, develop individualized treatment plans, provide case management and ensure progress notes are completed in a timely manner).
· Motivate/coach clients to engage in treatment process and meet recovery goals as identified in treatment plan.
· Provide professional counseling services (individual/group settings) to clients that help them develop and/or maintain a responsible and functional recovering lifestyle following an established curriculum and provide professional counseling services to family members/significant others of clients building the strength of the family as a whole to bring about adequate change in the client.
· Coordinate regular drug screening, track results and initiate proper procedures when positive results are identified.
· Provide case management to clients that help improve client’s health and promote wellness and autonomy through advocacy, communication, education, identification of service resources, and facilitation of service.
· Maintain clinical charts according to IDHR 2060 Licensing regulations.
· Recognizing limits of knowledge, skills and experience and in such cases, referring the client to other appropriate professional services.
· Participate quarterly with other clinical staff in the Utilization Review of clinical records determining the appropriateness of patient admission, level of care, continual length of stay and discharge.
· Perform other job related duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor or other designated persons.
Bachelor (Master’s preferred) in social work, psychology, or related field.
Hold certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor from the Illinois Certification Board (ICB);
Be a licensed professional counselor or a licensed clinical professional counselor pursuant to the Professional Counselor and Clinical Professional Counselor Licensing Act [225 ILCS 107];
Be a licensed clinical psychologist pursuant to the Clinical Psychology Practice Act [225 ILCS 15]; Be a licensed social worker (LSW) or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) pursuant to the Clinical Social Work and Social Work Practice Act [225 ILCS 20]; Be a licensed marriage and family therapist pursuant to the Marriage and Family Therapy Act [225 ILCS 55]; or Be a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) or a physician assistant with a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in psychiatry in accordance with the requirements specified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Ideal candidates will have 2+ years post-graduate experience working with adolescents and adults with substance use disorders, and children and families involved in the child welfare system. Knowledge of Administrative Code Parts 2060/2090. Knowledge of ASAM Criteria for substance use disorders. Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other counseling techniques. Knowledge of family-based treatment and evidence-based interventions. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Adhere to a professional code of ethics developed by the organization. Must pass a criminal background check (cannot have been convicted of any felony or had any subsequent incarceration for at least two years prior to the date of employment).
The CADC must have an ardent desire to continually learn about SUDs and recovery, and apply such concepts and ideas of the learning experience in the CADC position.
