Once appointed the appointments are contingent upon passing the required Physical and Psychological Examinations. Firefighters appointed to the Fire Department shall serve a twelve (12) month probationary period.  During the 12 month period the Firefighter shall become certified as a Firefighter II by the Office of the State Fire Marshall, an EMT Basic Level by the Illinois Department of Public Health, and complete any other training as required by the Director, Public Safety.  Firefighters shall be directly responsible to their company officers for proper and efficient performance of duties.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:All members of Local 429 will reside within five miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six months following successful completion of their probationary period.

 

 

Qualifications: 

The following are considered as minimum qualifications.  Extensive related experience will be considered in lieu of these position requirements if they represent similar skills,   knowledge, and levels of responsibility.

Firefighter positions are filled by the Danville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners when the Mayor declares there is an available opening for such.  Candidates must be ranked on a current eligibility register (Eligibility List) for the rank of Probationary Firefighter approved by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.  To attain status on the Probationary Firefighter Eligibility Register candidates must pass physical agility, written and oral examinations conducted by the Board.  Candidates shall have the qualifications as included in the “Rules of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners as approved or revised from time to time.

Education:   The minimum educational requirements for this position are High School or Equivalency Degree. 

Required Skills:   The following skills are basic to the functions of this position:  Candidates should possess these skills or be able to show their ability to develop  these skills within 30 days of their start date.
