Primary Responsibilities: 1. To design, plan, and facilitate academic tutorials and job readiness training customized for small groups. 2. To advise the Youth Development Specialist as to what supplies, materials, and other forms of support are needed for day-to-day activities. 3. To supervise all youth to ensure a safe and organized program. 4. To assist with the planning and facilitation of special projects and events. 5. To attend staff development workshops. 6. To perform other duties as assigned. Expectations: 1. The instructor, as a professional, has the responsibility to instruct lessons with enthusiasm and willingly shares experiences in the field being taught. 2. An instructor is responsible for the cleanliness of their classroom and proper operation of all equipment in their classroom. 3. All instructors must maintain discipline in each classroom while creating a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment where customers feel welcome and supported. Instructors should report all major classroom problems to the Youth Development Specialist. 4. An instructor has the responsibility to maintain daily and weekly lesson plans for each class and to use the FITM course outline for each subject taught. 5. The instructor has the responsibility to follow the make-up test policy. The policy should be distributed with the course syllabus on the first day of class. The instructor will act as make-up test administrator when scheduled. 6. An instructor must maintain an up-to-date class roster, permanent record for each participant, and attendance record for each participant. 7. An instructor is responsible for making sure a professional résumé is written for each participant prior to graduation. 8. All instructors must emphasize the importance of employment as part of the program and should conduct some kind of job search activity with each participant. 9. An instructor must be familiar with the fire code and how each classroom is to exit the building during a fire drill and must relay this information to the participant. 10. Instructors will be committed to the full length of the program with minimal to no absences excluding national holidays. 11. Instructor is responsible to ensure that youth have a safe work site assigned to them for paid/unpaid work experience. 12. Instructor will support youth to meet and/or exceed all WIOA mandated performance measures.

Qualifications: 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Baccalaureate degree in education, psychology or related field is preferred. Individuals with more than 60 college credit hours will be considered along with their employment history. 2. Desire to work with ALL youth. 3. Familiarity with criteria for quality youth development programs and the youth development philosophy toward engaging youth. 4. Ability to dissect and translate research information. 5. Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills. 6. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with educational partners, family members, business partners, community members, public officials, and private sector officials. 7. Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others. 8. Excellent writing and organizational skills. 9. Proficiency in computer applications. 10. Familiarity with training technology and equipment. 11. Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish) a plus. 12. Access to a vehicle and valid Illinois Driver’s License required. 13. Willingness to travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events and work flexible hours (including some Saturdays may be required).

Academic/Professional Youth Mentor with strong classroom management skills and prior classroom experience will serve as a tutor or will provide academic support to youth who face multiple barriers in mathematics, science, reading, and writing and will provide job readiness training in preparation of youth customers to secure unsubsidized employment and/or enter post-secondary education along with a credential.
