Georgetown Fair August 1-8 – (413 N. Seminary, Georgetown) Grounds open at 8AM Sunday.  Throughout the day enjoy Livestock shows, Commercial exhibits, Gospel Sing, Ice Cream Social, Community church services.  Grandstand Event: Ryan Stevenson Concert with American Idol’s Chris Sligh and the Lasting Hope: Hunger Jam Concert at 6PM.  More information available at www.georgetownfair.com

Volunteer with AmeriCorps NCCC Team on Community Trail Day at Kickapoo State Park – (1096 Park Rd., Oakwood ) An AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) team is hosting a community day with Trails for Illinois and the Kickapoo Mountain Bike Club.  This event is being hosted at Kickapoo State Recreation Area from 8AM to Noon.  Volunteers will be clearing and reclaiming the bike trails.  The community day is a way for volunteers to get out on the trails, learn how they are built and learn about the people who dedicate their careers to creating an environmental outdoor experience.  Volunteers will be cleaning up trails by removing muddy spots and vegetation, tamping trails to make them smoother and rerouting some areas.  At the end of the day, volunteers will be able to call themselves true “Trail Artists”!  Lunch will be provided for the event; however, volunteers should bring extra snacks, food, and water.  In addition, volunteers should bring work gloves and clothes they won’t mind getting dirty.  The event will be rescheduled if weather conditions are too severe, but volunteers should bring rain gear for light rain.  For any further info about this event, please contact Steve Buchtel at 708-365-9365 or steve@trailsforillinois.org.

American Legion Golf Tournament on Saturday & Sunday at 2 courses – (Harrison Park Golf Course at 1300 W. Voorhees & Turtle Run Golf Club at 332 E. Liberty Lane, Danville)  8:30AM tee time simultaneously on both course; players will switch courses for day 2 on Sunday.  Hosted by American Legion Post 210 & Danville Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, the tournament will be played on two area courses.

You can purchase farm raised quality packaged meats from our very own KD Ranch-bison, elk, and Texas Longhorn beef. Kickapoo Rail Trail Duathlon – (Kickapoo State Recreation Area, 10906 Kickapoo Park Road) This event will feature many options to participate in a 5K run & a 19-mile bike.  Registration fees range from $35 - $50.  You can register at Cycles Plus or online at www.cycles-plus.com.  Registration begins at 7:30AM.  Event runs from 9AM-2PM.

D118 Back-to-School Blitz at all 3 County Markets (Village Mall, Towne Center & Tilton), Aldi (S. Gilbert), Village Mall, & Family Dollar (E. Main St.) – Look for the buses from 8-10AM at all locations; 100 goody bags to be given out at each location.

The Downtown Danville Farmers Market – Farmer’s Markets will continue throughout the summer every Wed. and Sat. morning from 8AM-1PM on the Danville Public Library lawn.  Library activities:  9AM-1PM: Learn about University of Illinois’ Vermilion County Home and Community Education programs.  “Read to the Rhythm” featured instrument: piano.  On the Hegeler Stage: 9AM-1PM, Tex Wynn. 

Calling all Volunteers!  The City of Danville Public Works Department will be partnering with a wonderful and hardworking group from the AmeriCorps NCCC to paint Memorial Bridge railing today (& possibly tomorrow if not finished) – We will meet at 8AM at Overlook Landing (north of Subway sandwich shop on South Gilbert) to register and sign volunteer waivers.  We need 30 volunteers who like to paint and have an attention to detail, and also 5 volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, lunch, and running supplies.  We will begin painting at 8:30AM.  Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided.  At 12:30PM, lunch will be provided for everyone at Overlook Landing (where registration was held).   At 1:30PM, we will commence painting and we will stop painting by 7PM.  **When the west side is completed, we will move the operation to the east side and begin painting.  We hope that with enough volunteers we will complete the entire bridge in one day.  In the off chance that we do not, we will need 15-20 volunteers for Sunday as well and we will repeat the process listed above.  We will provide traffic control, safety vests, painting supplies, and water.  Please remember that this is a very busy bridge.  If you do not like heights, narrow spaces, being near vehicular traffic, but you want to be involved, I would urge you to volunteer for setup, cleanup, or providing lunch.  Due to the nature of the project and the bridge traffic, all volunteers must be 18 or older.  Please do not bring young children.  Please DO bring your friends, colleagues or neighbors for a great time on a great community project!  Please pre-register by calling 217-431-2313 or email slarson@cityofdanville.org.  We look forward to seeing you!

Nature Photography Exhibit by Photographer Tim Hagley at Kennekuk Environmental Education Center - The Vermilion County Conservation District will be showcasing a collection of photographs by Tim Hagley from now until the end of August at the Kennekuk Environmental Education Center.  A special artist reception for Tim Hagley, a Vermilion County native and graduate of Bismarck-Henning High School, will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 1-4PM.  His photography captures the essence of what he loves most about the Midwestern United States with the wide open skies, the minimalist beauty of an unobstructed horizon, and the sense of quiet solitude that can only be found in the rural countryside.  A participant of the Boneyard Arts Festival, Tim's photographs are mostly from the Vermilion and Champaign County area.  For more info, please contact Lara Darling, 442-1691, ldarling@vccd.org

33rd Annual Midwest Heritage Quilt Show at the Vermilion County Museum July 1-31 – (116 N. Gilbert St., Danville) Beautiful quilts, some nearly 100 years old, will be on display at the Vermilion County Museum throughout the month of July, 10AM-5PM today.  Door fee for the show: $2.50 per adult; $1.00 for children 13-17; 12 and under are free.

Sleepy Creek Vineyards - (Located 3.5 miles south of Oakwood) Winery open 10AM-8PM.  And, "Wieners & Wine," 5-8PM every Friday from April to October.   Sleepy Creek will provide a fire, hot dogs, and the fixings!  Guests are welcome to bring additional food, but all alcoholic beverages must be purchased through the Vineyard.  Drink options include wine, slushies, sangria, beer, soda and bottled water. Seating and service is first come, first served with no reservations.

The Danville Public Library presents "Fridays in the Children's Department" - (319 N. Vermilion St., Danville) Ages 6-12 will enjoy crafts, books and music at "The Music Experience" book club, 10:30AM-11:30AM.

Danville Public Library Free Kids’ Movie - This month’s Free Kids’ Movie at the Danville Public Library features the 2015 animated adventure/comedy about Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, who lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people.  He forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own.  Movie at 2PM, first floor Meeting Room; for kids ages 11 and under.  All kids under age 8 must be with an adult (18 or older).  No teens or adults without a child under the age of 8 will be allowed.  Public performance rights for the film are made possible by a grant from the Danville Library Foundation. 

American Legion Post 210 Dinner - (1600 N. Jackson St., Danville) Our weekly "Big Fish & All the Trimmings" from 5-8PM.  Specializing in Tilapia and Catfish and new addition of Frog Legs, along with full menu items to complete your dinner experience.  Hop on over & Hook a Big One - Oh, what a catch!  Public invited.

Danville Light Opera Youth Musical presents “Annie Jr.” at DACC Bremer Auditorium this Friday, Saturday & Sunday – (2000 E.
