71st Annual Hoopeston National Sweetcorn Festival all weekend – (McFerren Park, Hoopeston) Today 9AM-9PM.  The National Sweetcorn Festival originated in 1941 through an adaptation of the original Hoopeston Sweetcorn Festival.  The first festival, in 1938, was organized by city businessmen to promote business in Hoopeston and to celebrate the yearly harvest of sweetcorn.  The National Sweetcorn Festival is unique in that, besides the normal carnival, demolition derby, Grand Parade and other events, approximately 50 tons of sweetcorn is cooked with an antique steam engine and distributed for FREE. Westville Lions Club 104th Labor Day Celebration all weekend at Zamberletti Park and St. Mary’s Church – Today 1PM-7PM.  Come and help us celebrate Labor Day in Westville!  Events include pageant, parade, raffle, bingo, big wheel, talent contest, live music, food and fun!

Kennekuk Environmental Education Center open Saturdays and Sundays – (in Kennekuk County Park, 22296 Henning Rd., Danville) Open every Saturday & Sunday through October 26, 1-4PM.

Open Roller Skating at Illini Skateland 1-5PM; $6.25 + skate rental (Or 1-3PM for $5.25 + skate rental; or 3-5PM for $5.25 + skate rental); if applicable, Family Rate: Up to 6 persons for $29.95 (one adult must be present and all kids must be in your family).  Lazer tag, putt putt & batting cages also available.

Historic Lamon House located in Lincoln Park will be open Sundays through October 26 - The Vermilion County Museum Society announces that the historic Lamon House located in Lincoln Park will be open on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30PM beginning May 4 through October 26, 2014. Visit the home on the first Sunday of each month to meet Melissa Beckwith Lamon and her brother Hiram Beckwith, portrayed by Becky and Alan Woodrum, as you tour the site.

Bingo at the VFW Post 728 - (8 Pine St., Danville) Every Sunday at 2PM

Music at Kickapoo Landing presents "McMahon & Cassidy" - Music from 2-4PM. The Dockside Café offers you dining by the lake and features dinner specials every weekend. Come listen to live music Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights, now through October. For more info, call 217-446-8399.

The Corn Belt Clash at The Vermilion County Speedway – Pit gates open up at 2PM, and the Grandstand opens at 4PM.  On track action gets underway at 6:30PM.  General admission is $20 for 16 and older, $10 for 11-15 years of age, and children 10 and under are free.  Pit passes are $30.

Downtown Danville Farmers’ Market at Danville Public Library - Find home-grown groceries, baked from scratch items, and handmade goods at this year’s farmer’s market which runs from May 17-October 4 every Tuesday from 2-7PM and Saturday 8AM-1PM.  This Saturday’s Farmers’ Market is hosted by is hosted by the Red Mask Children’s Theatre. Music by John McMahon.

Catlin Lions Club’s 70th Annual Fish Fry – (Catlin City Park) The fish fry will feature an all-you-care-to-eat dinner of fish, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce, chips and a drink for $8, 4-8PM.  Barbeque, hot dogs, lemon shake-ups, and ice cream will also be available.  Activities for the family include inflatables, a cakewalk, games and bingo.  Raffle tickets are available from any Catlin Lions member.  A drawing will be held at 8PM for a grand prize of $500 plus two prizes each of $75, $50 and $25.  Proceeds will be used to support Lions Vision and Hearing Projects, local youth groups, the Lions Catlin War Veteran’s Memorial and community projects.

Mad Goat Coffee has Live Music – (2601 N. Vermilion St., Danville) Live southern rock with “A Sweet Sound” from Dayton, OH, 7-9PM.  Come out and enjoy the music while you sip delicious coffee!

Grand Opening at Tower Loan – (114 N. Walnut, Danville) Grand Opening from 11AM-1PM.  Ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30AM.

American Legion Post 210 Dinner - (1600 N. Jackson St., Danville) Our weekly "Big Fish & All the Trimmings" from 5-8PM.  Specializing in Tilapia and Catfish and new addition of Frog Legs, along with full menu items to complete your dinner experience.  Hop on over & Hook a Big One - Oh, what a catch!  Public invited.
