Community Church of God hosts “Operation Christmas Child” Speaker – (535 Bowman Ave., Danville) Alex Nsengimana, a Rwandan native and survivor of genocide is a national spokesperson for “Operation Christmas Child.”  He will share his testimony of healing and forgiveness on Sunday at 10AM.  To learn more about this special presentation, visit www.dccog.com.

Zombie Survival 5K Run at Kickapoo State Park – The Danville Jaycees are hosting the Zombie Survival 5K Run. You can be a runner, or you can be a Zombie.  There will be music and food.  Runners will be in groups of 5-8 people.  Registration will begin at 10AM for zombies and 11AM for runners. The run will begin at Noon.  Post-race party will begin about 4PM and feature hayrides, hot chocolate and smores for $10/person.  All runners will receive a prize for crossing the finish line. 

“Game Day” at Snapper’s Bar & Grill at Turtle Run – (332 E. Liberty Lane, Danville) Miami at Chicago/Cincinnati at Indianapolis, 11AM-5PM.  Complimentary chili and appetizers.  Hosted by Vermilion County Republicans.

Sleepy Creek Vineyards - (Located 3.5 miles south of Oakwood) Winery open Noon-6PM.  Bloody Sunday Bar has returned - create your own Winey Mary/Bloody Mary-style concoction with a wide selection of ingredients like fresh celery, pickles, olive, tomato juices, Tabasco, pepper, bloody mary mix, & more! 

Kennekuk Environmental Education Center open Saturdays and Sundays – (in Kennekuk County Park, 22296 Henning Rd., Danville) Open every Saturday & Sunday through October 26, 1-4PM.

Open Roller Skating at Illini Skateland 1-5PM; $6.25 + skate rental (Or 1-3PM for $5.25 + skate rental; or 3-5PM for $5.25 + skate rental); if applicable, Family Rate: Up to 6 persons for $29.95 (one adult must be present and all kids must be in your family).  Lazer tag, putt putt & batting cages also available.

Historic Lamon House located in Lincoln Park will be open Sundays through October 26 - The Vermilion County Museum Society announces that the historic Lamon House located in Lincoln Park will be open on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30PM beginning May 4 through October 26, 2014. Visit the home on the first Sunday of each month to meet Melissa Beckwith Lamon and her brother Hiram Beckwith, portrayed by Becky and Alan Woodrum, as you tour the site.

Bingo at the VFW Post 728 - (8 Pine St., Danville) Every Sunday at 2PM

The Little Lorraine features: "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Friday, Saturday & Sunday - (324 E. Main St., Hoopeston) The Sunday showings will take place at 2PM and 4:30PM. See you at the movies!

The Haunted Hideaway Open - (1201 E. 12th St., Georgetown) Open 6-10PM.  According to the Illinois State Inspector, "The Haunted Hideaway” is the biggest haunted attraction within 100 miles."  Three haunts are offered each night with special after-hour investigations; $15 general admission.

Saturday:

Forest Glen Trail Ultra Marathon – The Forest Glen Trail Run is a 50K race, 8AM start.  This is the third race in the Central Illinois Ultra marathon series.  The new 10.6 mile course wanders along the streams and the Vermilion River.  The course is easier than the previous year’s course, although quite challenging; mostly single tract wooded running with steep up and down hills.  Be sure that this will challenge the most hardy runner!  To register, please visit the link at the VCCD’s website, www.vccd.org.  For more info, contact Bob O’Brien at drbobobrien@att.net.

Halloween 5K starting at Catlin Park Registration at 9AM ($20); Race at 10AM; prizes.  There will also be a costume contest, face painting and a health tent where info is available and vitals can be checked by nursing students.  Proceeds going to nursing and athletic depts. at Catlin school district.  Hosted by a group of nursing students from Lakeview College of Nursing.

Cycles Plus is growing the cycling culture in Danville by offering group rides multiple times every weekend - Cycles Plus continues to grow the cycling culture in Danville!  Whether you're a beginner or looking for a group to ride with, Cycles Plus makes those opportunities happen!  We do short rides and long rides for everyone to enjoy!  Check our Facebook page ("Cycles Plus Danville") for up-to-date information and ride times.  Cycles Plus has new hours for the cold season.  Monday-Friday: 10AM-6PM; Saturday: 10AM-3PM; Sunday: CLOSED.

Santa’s Anonymous Collection at Trinity United Church in Westville – Santa’s Anonymous will be collecting coats, hats, mittens, gloves and scarves for all ages (children to adult) from 9AM-Noon.  The collection will take place at the Trinity United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall on Moses Avenue in Westville (street next to Westville Park).  Please drop off new or gently used items in clean condition during the above times.  We are not accepting clothes, shoes or boots at this time.

Vermilion Advantage hosting Rare Public Tour of Vermilion County Industries - For only the second time, major companies in Vermilion County Illinois are opening their doors for a special one day, behind-the-scenes look.  The Vermilion County Tour of Industries will be held from 10AM-3PM.  Tour participants may register to win prizes, learn about the companies and receive information about immediate job openings.  The six companies participating are: Automation International; Danville Metal Stamping (Martin Street facility); Leatherneck Hardware; NACCO Materials Handling Group; ThyssenKrupp Presta; Watchfire Signs.  First tours begin at 10:00AM; last tours begin at 2:30PM.  Start at any of those sites.  Last year’s event drew over 1,000 visitors to the August 24 event which included five area companies.  “We were thrilled with the response to the tour last year on every level,” said Vicki Haugen, CEO of Vermilion Advantage. “We didn’t know what to expect with the first time event. When we suggested the idea, five Vermilion County businesses immediately signed on to not only open their doors, but really let people see what it is like inside their facilities.  The day of the event, tour participants came out in droves, certainly from Vermilion County but we also drew people from as far as Indianapolis and Peoria.  People told us they were amazed by the products being manufactured, the work environment, the technology, and the career opportunities available here.  And we think this year’s tour will build on last year’s success.”  Visit www.madeinvermilioncounty.com for specific restrictions and other guidelines.

Obie’s 1st Annual Cruisin’ Car Show & Bands – (Old Railroad crossing in Oakwood across from Obie’s Arctic Chill) Cruisin’ cars may start parking/lining up around 2:30PM, no registration necessary. Show starts at 3:30PM.  All vintage, show and classic cars are welcome.  There will be two stages featuring entertainment by “Cast Iron” & “Big Guns.”  Bands will begin at dusk, bring lawn chairs or blankets. Cycles Plus bicycle ride to Coffing Brothers Apple Orchard south of Covington – (12 W.
