Local Clean-Up Day in Oakwood (2 times today) for Leadership Tomorrow Class 26's Class Project (the class is scheduling other clean-ups in other communities on other weekends also – stay tuned) - We welcome & encourage residents of these communities, or anyone, to come out & help!  We’ll meet twice on Sunday – first, at the Pilot Truck Stop at 10:30AM to clean up that area.  Later, at 12:30PM, we’ll meet at the former Diamond Grade School to assist with the baseball fields there.  See Oakwood flyer here.

Red Mask Players present "Amateurs" on Friday, Saturday & Sunday - (Kathryn Randolph Theater, 601 N. Vermilion St., Danville) Red Mask Players present the comedy “Amateurs” by Tom Griffin; 8PM Friday & Saturday; 2PM Sunday.  Following the opening night of the Timberly Troupers’ musical about undertakers, Dorothy and her slightly daft husband, Charlie, host a gathering of actors and friends.  The chic opening night party includes Nathan (a recently divorced high school teacher who is also a very bad ventriloquist), Wayne (better at loving than acting), Jennifer (who has a sure shot at Hollywood stardom), Ernie (one of the Troupers’ actors filled with ham and spite), Irene (his out of patience wife), Mona (who was in love with Wayne but has since moved on to someone else) and Paul (a well-known drama critic and friend of Dorothy’s who has just broken his rule of never reviewing community theater).  The party becomes the setting where the dreams, loves, failures and successes of this group are explored with bittersweet humor and the relationship between risk and need is touchingly depicted.

Open Practice Session at The Vermilion County Speedway – An open practice for all dirt track competitors, 5-9PM.  Grandstand is FREE.  Pit passes: $20; Children 6-10: $5; Children 5 and under: Free.

Route Your Retirement Fair at the Danville Public Library – Picture yourself during retirement, answer questions based on what you want your lifestyle to be, and see if you’re on the right route. This is a free public event, 10AM-2PM; complete the fair at your own pace.  Event intended for audience from young adult to retirement age individuals.

Ladies' Pink Night at Danville Gardens - Come enjoy a special evening with us from 7-9PM at Danville Gardens and help raise money for the fight against breast cancer.  The evening benefits The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  BCRF (founded in 1993 by Evelyn Lauder) directs 91 cents of every dollar they receive to breast cancer research and awareness programs. Their research grants program gives funds to more than 200 scientists worldwide and is distinguished by its emphasis on creativity, intellectual freedom, and focus on using the best people, ideas, and tools of science to conquer this major disease. Those projects connect diverse channels of scientific inquiry and culminate into one global effort-to realize the dream of every family touched by cancer: eradication of the disease. Join the fun and help raise money for cancer research. Enjoy appetizers with us and See. Try. Create. Our creative demos for the night are Scarf Tying; Spring Gardening Ideas; Herbs in the Kitchen; and a Make & Take Pallet Sign. Silent Auction throughout the evening. Sleepy Creek Vineyards presents “Gong Show 3.0” – Here it comes….our 3rd Gong Show, 8PM.  Who will be the judges? Who will be new to the stage?  Who will return to the stage for another compelling or gong-worthy performance?  Whatever happens, it’s going to be fun and organized chaos!  Set up just like TV’s Gong Show from the 70’s, we hope nobody will get offended but yeah, it’s very likely.  Remember to follow the action using #scgong on Twitter.  We really need YOU to perform your special talent.  To get on the performance list, email kayla@sleepycreekvineyards.com with your name and a brief description of your act.  Keep in mind the audience and performers must be 18 years or older.  The show is free; no reservations are being accepted and seating is LIMITED and will be available first come, first served.  The show will start at 8PM, so show up early, bring some snacks, and purchase a beverage.

Local Bands at Georgetown American Legion – (106 E. West St., Georgetown) “Hillbilly Deluxe” and “Torn Labels” bands, 9PM-Midnight.  50/50 raffle and drink specials.

Sleepy Creek Vineyards - (Located 3.5 miles south of Oakwood) Winery open 10AM-8PM.  And, "Wieners & Wine," 5-8PM every Friday from April to October.  Sleepy Creek will provide a fire, hot dogs, and the fixings!  Guests are welcome to bring additional food, but all alcoholic beverages must be purchased through the Vineyard.  Drink options include wine, slushies, sangria, beer, soda and bottled water.  Seating and service is first come, first served with no reservations.

American Legion Post 210 Dinner - (1600 N. Jackson St., Danville) Our weekly "Big Fish & All the Trimmings" from 5-8PM.  Specializing in Tilapia and Catfish and new addition of Frog Legs, along with full menu items to complete your dinner experience.  Hop on over & Hook a Big One - Oh, what a catch!  Public invited.

Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry & “Kurrent Karaoke” - (310 Bryan Ave., Danville) Lenten Fish frys are scheduled every Friday beginning March 7 and continuing through April 18, 2014, 5:30-7:00PM. The menu by Carl Thompson & crew will consist of fish, fries, coleslaw, a side dish and coffee. Price will be $7/adults and $4/kids 12 and under.  “Kurrent Karaoke” will be in the Columbus Club Lounge from 7:30-11:30PM.  After rave reviews in December, we decided to have them back.  Come down and enjoy some great fellowship and entertainment with your family and friends.

Gao Grotto Dinner - (2400 Denmark Rd., Danville) Your choice of hamburgers, chicken strips, or beer-battered fish with fries, baked beans or cole slaw, $6.  Open to the public, 5:30-7:30PM.

Danville Area Community College presents “An Evening of German Music: A Celebration of German Romanticism” – (DACC Bremer Theater) 7:30PM, Featuring lyric soprano Kelly Holden and pianist Eric Simonson.  Music will include works by Franz Schubert, Richard Strauss, Robert Schumann, and Hugo Wolf.  Admission is free.
