2006 was
probably the best overall year Vermilion County has seen in
well over a quarter of a century.
-
We had 5 new
location announcements and 3 expansions netting a promise of
over $417M in investment, construction or renovation of more
than 305,000 SF, the development of 220 new acres of land,
the creation of 315 new jobs and the retention of over 300
jobs.

We experienced
the lowest unemployment rate in over 30 years with a growing
labor force.

There were no
major closings or permanent downsizing announcements.

There were
several major union contracts ratified without fanfare.

Our
workforce development initiatives continued to grow and
attract regional and national attention.
