Farm City Event Vermilion Advantage and the Agri-Business Council sponsor Farm City as an annual event held in August and hosted at various farm and ag-related industry sites such as the former Magie Show, Bunge, at the 50th Anniversary Farm Progress Show, Country Delight Farms, 2005 & 2006 at Illiana Seed and 2007 at the Doug & Vickie Miller Farm. The 2008 Farm City evening event was held at Sleepy Creek Vineyards with a presentation by Joe and Dawn Taylor on the grape/vineyard industry in Vermilion County, as a part of agriculture. The 2008 Ag Leader award went to Joe Daughhetee; Ag Business was First National Bank in Georgetown; and the Ag Leader was Craig Potter. The purpose of the Farm City event is to emphasize the correlation and economic impact that agriculture has on our area; to familiarize the community with all phases of the industry (urban & rural working together); and to honor on an annual basis the Ag Education, Business and Leader of the year for their continuing efforts and contributions to the agriculture industry in Vermilion County – the urban and rural connection & partnerships. The 2009 event will be on August 27 – The Agri-Business Council’s Farm City Night; 5:30 PM; site host is the International Greenhouse Company. Program includes presentation by David George, President of IGC; a presentation by the Douglas Discovery Garden committee; local business professionals will present a historical review of the nursery & horticulture industry in Vermilion County; and the presentation of the 2009 Agri-business awards. Tickets are $8.50. Click here for flier. |
